Mistakes In Hiring That You Really Need To Avoid

Hiring somebody to fulfill a vacant position in your business is something that needs to be carefully thought about. Especially if they will have really big shoes to fill or if they need to handle a lot of work and a lot of pressure coolly, this is even truer. Here are some of the main mistakes that people make when hiring other employees, and how you can avoid making them.

Getting Impressed By Just the Resume

Its common sense that one should never include falsified information on a resume. However, it is also true that people do include information that while not being fully falsified, could easily be an exaggeration of the truth. This is why it is never a great idea to get impressed by a resume alone and set your sights on that person. For example, just because somebody has five years of experience in payroll services Singapore, it does not mean that they are better in every way than the person with four years of experience in a startup. You have to meet each person for real and talk to them to gauge where they stand. Better yet, you should try to include a written exam in your interview stages so that you can actually see if they do walk the talk.

Trying To Bargain Too Much On the Salary

The compensation of a job, let’s face it, is the main point of attraction for any candidate who is checking out the advert that you have placed. They will most of the time, mention the kind of remuneration they are currently at and what they would like to get from you on the resume. This expected amount would have a marginal increase on the current compensation that they receive. Trying to bargain too much on this and bring down the amount that they are asking for will demotivate them at the start itself and cause you to lose out on really good employees. On the other hand as a well experienced recruitment agency would say, if any candidate is willing to still take the job after you have negotiated them into  a significantly lower amount than their expectation, there is a question about how ‘desperate’ they are for the job. People who are desperate will do anything to get their foot in and that is not something good always.

Dismissing the Reference Check

You cannot overlook the reference check if you wish to hire people who are legit. Anybody can be cited as a reference on a resume. For the information to be validated, they need to have actual correspondence to their place of work and traceable connections such as their office email with the name of the company on the domain, they need to have an office contact number and should be verifiable.
